Resources: Periparturient Egg Rise

The periparturient egg rise is a well known phenomenon in small ruminants. It is the reduction in immunity to parasites that occurs around the time of birthing. The result is an increase in fecal egg and oocyst counts. These increase counts in ewes/does lead to higher levels of infection in offspring. In fact, they are the primary source of infection for young, growing lambs/kids.
