BioWorma® Update from ASI

Joan Burke gave a presentation on BioWorma® at the American Sheep Industry (ASI) Association Convention in Denver, Colorado in January 2024. Her presentation is available as a PDF file.

BioWorma® contains a nematode-trapping fungus named Dunningtonia flagrans. The fungus traps and kills roundworm larvae in the manure of livestock; thereby, reducing the reinfection of pastures with infective worm larvae. While considerable research has been done with BioWorma® in Australia, research is on-going in the US to determine the best use of the product.

Dr. Burke is a Research Animal Scientist at the USDA ARS Dale Bumpers Small Farms Research Center in Boonville, Arkansas. She is one of the founding members of the American Consortium for Small Ruminant Parasite Control.
