Harley Naumann is a State Forage Specialist with the Division of Animal Sciences at the University of Missouri. He received his B.S. in Animal Science and his M.S. in Biology from Tarleton State University. He received his Ph.D. in Agronomy from Texas A&M University. Dr. Naumann’s research program focus on understanding the critical physiological components of warm and cool-season forages that lead to improvements in forage-livestock production systems. In particular, he is interested in the production of biologically active polyphenol-based forage plant secondary metabolites and their role in plant-animal interactions. Ongoing research involves identifying and understanding the factors that affect phytochemical concentrations and their associated impacts on animal production and the environment to 1) improve efficiency of nutrient utilization, while 2) reducing production and emission of greenhouse gases and other pollutants by livestock.
