Katherine Petersson is a Professor at the University of Rhode Island (URI) in the Department of Fisheries, Animal & Veterinary Science. Dr. Petersson obtained her B.S. degree in Animal Science, from Texas A&M University in 1982 and her M.S. (1986) and Ph.D. (1990) in Animal Science (Nutrition) from Cornell University. Katherine’s integrated research/outreach program is focused upon three areas: 1) the use of plant products with natural anthelmintic activity and the efficacy of Bacillus thuringiensis crystal proteins against gastrointestinal nematodes in small ruminants, 2) maximizing the normal immune response of sheep and goats to gastrointestinal parasites and 3) adoption of integrated parasite control practices by small ruminant producers that will increase the health and well-being of their livestock.
