Dr. Felix Uchenna Samuel serves as the State Specialist in Animal Science (Small Ruminants) with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria, followed by an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Theriogenology from the same institution. In addition, he holds a second M.Sc. in Food Science with a concentration in Animal Health from Alabama A&M University and completed a residency diploma (FCVSN).

Dr. Samuel’s areas of expertise include reproductive physiology and herd/flock management strategies to enhance small ruminant productivity. His current Extension and applied research efforts focus on genetic selection for parasite resistance in meat goats using FAMACHA score monitoring, fecal egg counts, rotational grazing systems, and evaluation of serum biochemistry markers.

As part of his outreach initiatives, Dr. Samuel leads a monthly statewide Small Ruminant Webinar Series that educates producers, farmers, and landowners on best management practices. He also coordinates hands-on workshops aimed at improving the skills of farmers in small ruminant production, reproduction and health management.
