Eric Morgan is a Professor in the newly formed Institute for Global Food Security at Queen’s University Belfast. His research interests focus on the role of climate in shaping parasite epidemiology in a wide range of systems, and how better understanding in this area can aid control. This work involves a combination of laboratory experiments, computer model development, and field epidemiology. Outputs include predictive models and forecasts to help target treatment optimally for parasite management, taking account of the challenges of drug resistance and climate change, and the opportunities afforded by novel control approaches. Eric qualified as a veterinarian from the University of Cambridge in 1997, obtained a PhD in parasite ecology and epidemiology from the University of Warwick and then taught at Bristol Veterinary School for 15 years before moving to Ireland. He is a Diplomate of the European Veterinary Parasitology College, and hence a recognized European veterinary specialist in parasitology.
