Dr. Niki Whitley is an Extension Specialist at Fort Valley State University (FVSU; since 2015) with 20+ years of experience with small ruminant production. Prior to FVSU, Dr. Whitley was the Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Leader and Animal Science Specialist at North Carolina A&T State University, developing and managing a site with up to 120 does and before that she was at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, supervising the livestock at the University Farm, including up to 200 does and ewes combined. Dr. Whitley graduated with an A.S. in Business from ABAC, with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Animal Science from the University of Georgia, obtained a Ph.D. degree from Mississippi State University and conducted postdoctoral studies at the University of Missouri. With a primarily Extension appointment (some applied research), Niki has developed programs in livestock integrated parasite management (IPM), including goat and sheep training, and general small-scale pasture livestock production. Dr. Whitley has many research articles, is a successful grant writer, and has several newsletter and fact sheet publications aimed at farmer/producer education.
