Parasites Increase Methane Emissions
High intestinal parasite burdens can increase sheep methane emissions by as much as one-third, advises Scottish research. Effective worm control both increases sheep productivity and is good for the environment.
Work by Scotland’s Rural College and the Moredun Research Institute shows that parasite infections in lambs can lead to a 33% increase in methane output, with parasitism one of the top three livestock diseases that increase greenhouse gas emissions, but one that is cost-effective to manage.
