Sue Howell is the laboratory manager for Dr. Ray Kaplan’s clinical parasitology lab at the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine and she specializes in anthelmintic (dewormer) resistance of large animals. She has been employed with Dr. Kaplan since 2000, and during that time obtained her Master’s Degree in Infectious Diseases, with an emphasis in parasites of ruminants. She oversees and conducts a number of diagnostic assays including the DrenchRite® Assay for anthelmintic resistance in small ruminants, camelids, and exotic hoofstock. Additionally, she is involved in various research projects and helps oversee numerous students from the undergraduate level to the graduate level. She also enjoys talking with producers and other researchers about current parasite problems and making suggestions about diagnostic testing which may benefit them. Besides enjoying her job at UGA, Sue and her husband enjoy attending local car shows with their classic cars (mostly Mustangs), spending time with their grandchildren, and playing with their dogs, Beauregard and Belle (Anatolian Shepherds).
